When Máté approached me to collaborate on organizing two sessions for the university on rapid prototyping and usability testing techniques, I felt an instant rush of excitement and felt compelled to accept the offer. I have always enjoyed sharing my knowledge with others and helping them learn new things.
Teachers at the university faced a problem
At the university, they have great teachers with immense academic knowledge. However, they lack practical experience with real-life business problems. So, they asked for help.
Giving lectures without much experience
At the time, I haven’t had much experience with presentations longer than 20 minutes, especially not in person. I wanted to deliver an engaging experience and provide knowledge to the students who could apply it immediately. Although, I wasn’t sure how to do that.
Working together helped a lot
Máté's experience and advice were instrumental in overcoming my fears. Together, we realized that simply giving a presentation wouldn’t be enough to hold the attention of the students for more than two hours.
What approach did we choose?
So, we came up with the idea of designing two sessions consisting of two collaborative workshops and three very short presentations to create an immersive experience for the students by combining different approaches to transfer knowledge in the best possible way we knew.
Being in the moment
It was the first time in my life that I realized what it truly means to stay in the moment. It was also a humbling moment, and I learned that everyone has to teach something to us. This is one of the reasons why I love teaching and mentoring others.
